NFL Week 3 odds: How to bet Chiefs-Colts

AFC West take on AFC South in Week 3 of 2002 NFL season.

The Kansas City Chiefs travel to Hoosier State to face the Indianapolis Colts at 1 p.m. ET Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Chiefs come into this game on a lengthy layoff after beating the Los Angeles Chargers 27-24 on Thursday night. Patrick Mahomes hasn’t missed a beat without Tyreek Hill as the offense continues to click. Already in mid-season form, the only goal now is to stay healthy and fight for the highest seed possible in the playoffs.

But a win here can’t be taken for granted, as the Colts were completely embarrassed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2, getting shut out 24-0. Indy will enter this one in desperation mode.

Coach Frank Reich had something special in Indianapolis early on, but it’s abundantly clear that, like Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan isn’t the answer to the signal call. Simply put, if the Colts couldn’t put up a single point against the Jags, it’s going to be tough for them to beat the Chiefs.

Here’s everything you need from a betting perspective for the Chiefs-Colts game, point spread, moneyline, total over/under and expert pick (odds via FOX Bet):

Over/under total score: 50.5 points scored by both teams combined

Picked by FOX Sportsbook Analyst Jason McIntyre:

The Colts must be the NFL’s worst team in two games. After a road tie against the Texans, they were shut out in Jacksonville. As if things could get any worse, the 2-0 Chiefs come in with extra rest, and Patrick Mahomes has never lost a game in a domed stadium.

It’s a scary prospect to bring the Chiefs’ running stars inside, and the only chance the Colts will have is to keep Mahomes on the sidelines with a heavy dose of Jonathan Taylor. With Kansas City second tackle linebacker Willie Gay suspended for four games, there could be opportunities to exploit the Chiefs on the field. It’s unclear if third-round rookie Leo Chenal will start in his place.

Be careful betting against teams that have just shut out – teams that have lost by shutout are 25-9 against the spread (ATS) the following week over the past seven seasons.

The injury report will be critical for Indy. Matt Ryan was without his best receiver (Michael Pittman) in Jacksonville, and their best defensive player (Shaq Leonard) has yet to play this season.

The anticipation line for that was -3, but after the Colts’ shutout, it jumped to -6.5. He will hit seven, and there will be redemption on the Colts.

Side note: Frank Reich could coach for his work in this one.

If you can get -6.5, take it, but that’s no bet for me at -7. KC will also be in many teasers.

TAKE: Chiefs (-6.5 at FOX Bet) wins by more than 6.5 points
